Hanging Mirrors, Shelves, Towel Bars and Art in Phoenix
Towel bars that pulled out and mirrors that are too heavy to trust.

Most hanging problems are anchor problems. A screw driven into drywall alone holds very little, and the plastic anchors that come in the box pull out under weight or with repeated use, like a towel bar. Heavy and important things go into the studs, into blocking behind the wall, or onto anchors rated for the weight. On block walls, that means masonry anchors. We hang things so they stay up.
Towel bars, toilet paper holders and hooks
The towel bar that pulled out of the wall is the most common call. It was mounted with plastic anchors, and a wet towel yanked on it a thousand times. The fix is to fill the torn holes, patch the drywall if needed, and remount the bar into a stud or onto a toggle anchor that spreads the load. If the bar can't reach a stud, a backing board or a toggle does the job. Same for robe hooks, hand towel rings and toilet paper holders.
Mirrors and art
A big mirror or a heavy frame goes on a cleat, a strip screwed into the studs that the mirror hangs from along its whole width, or on anchors rated for twice its weight. A frameless mirror gets mirror clips or adhesive plus clips, so it can't slide. Gallery walls get laid out on the floor, taped on the wall, and hung so the spacing matches.
Shelves
Floating shelves need their bracket in the studs or in solid blocking, or they droop and the drywall tears. Bracket shelves need the brackets in studs. Shelves loaded with books are heavy, and we build for the load. Closet, pantry and garage shelving gets built the same way.
Curtain rods
Curtain rods pull out of the wall when the brackets are in drywall and the curtains are heavy. The brackets go into the header above the window, which is solid wood, or onto toggles.
