Bathroom with a tiled tub surround and tiled walls

Most shower problems start small. Grout cracks, water gets behind a tile, and a few months later the tile is loose or the wall behind it is soft. Caught early, it's a repair. Left alone, it turns into a tear-out.

We regrout and reseal, replace cracked or loose tile, retile shower walls when the base is still sound, track down leaks at the valve, drain or grout lines, and replace tub surrounds and shower glass. If what we find means the shower pan has failed, we'll say so, and that part becomes a remodel.

Questions

Can you fix my shower without tearing it out?
Often, yes. If the base and the wall behind the tile are sound, regrouting, resealing or retiling the walls fixes it. If the base has failed, we'll show you, and that part is a remodel.
Why does my shower keep getting mold in the corners?
The corners were grouted instead of caulked, or the caulk is old. Grout cracks in a corner because the two walls move differently, and the crack holds water. The fix is cutting it out and running mold-resistant silicone.
A tile came loose in the shower. Is that urgent?
Fairly. A loose tile means water is behind it. One loose tile on a solid wall is a quick reset. If the wall behind it is soft, the problem is bigger, and that's worth knowing now rather than after the next six months of showers.
