Peeling thermofoil

Thermofoil doors are a vinyl skin over a fiberboard core. Heat and steam from the oven, the dishwasher and the coffee maker loosen the skin, and it peels back from the edge. Regluing rarely holds, because the heat that loosened it is still there. A replacement door is the lasting fix, and thermofoil doors are still made in most styles. For the doors around the oven, a heat shield strip on the cabinet edge keeps the new door from peeling the same way.

Chips, scratches and worn finish

Chipped paint on a painted door gets filled, sanded and touched up with a matched color. Scratches on a stained wood door get a touch-up marker or a stain-and-finish repair. Worn finish around the handles, where hands have rubbed the finish off, gets cleaned, lightly sanded and recoated. A whole door that's worn gets refinished to match its neighbors.

Painting a full kitchen's cabinets is its own project with its own quote. A vanity, an island or a small run of cabinets is a smaller paint job.

Laminate edges

Laminate cabinets peel at the edges and corners. Loose laminate gets reglued with contact cement and clamped. A chipped corner gets filled or the edge banding replaced. A whole door that's delaminated gets replaced.
