Close-up of square tiles and grout lines

Grout is the part of a shower that wears out first. Once it cracks or washes out, water gets behind the tile. Regrouting stops that before it becomes a bigger job.

We grind or rake out the old grout, clean the joints, regrout, and replace the caulk at the corners and where the tile meets the tub or base. Corners get caulk, not grout, because they move. Hard Phoenix water leaves mineral buildup on grout, so we finish with a sealer and tell you how to keep it clean.

How it starts

Send a close-up of the grout and one of the whole shower. Tell us whether any tiles move when you press them. Fixed price before we start. Levi runs the job. New grout cures for a day before the shower gets used.

Questions

Can you regrout over the old grout?
Not well. New grout over old doesn't bond and cracks again quickly. We take the old grout out first.
My grout is stained but solid. Does it need to come out?
No. Solid grout that's just dark gets cleaned and color-sealed, which evens the color and seals it in one step. Only crumbling, cracked or missing grout gets ground out.
Will regrouting stop my shower leaking?
If the leak is water through missing grout and the wall behind is still solid, yes. If tiles are loose or the wall flexes when you press it, the waterproofing has failed and regrouting won't hold it. We tap the tiles before we quote.
