Screens are what let you open the house up on the nice days without letting the bugs and the dust in. They tear, sag and fall out of their frames, and they're cheap to fix or make new.
Window and door screens
A torn or sagging screen gets re-screened in its existing frame: the old mesh and spline come out, new mesh goes in, and the spline gets rolled back into the groove. A bent frame gets straightened or rebuilt from new frame stock to the same size. Phoenix sun makes screen mesh brittle, so a screen that tears easily is usually due for new mesh all around.
Mesh choices matter here. Standard fiberglass is fine for most windows. Sun-blocking mesh cuts heat and glare on west-facing windows noticeably. Pet-resistant mesh holds up to claws. Fine mesh keeps out the tiny bugs that come in after monsoon rain.
Sliding screen doors
The screen door on a sliding patio door drags for the same reason the glass door does: worn rollers. New rollers, a straightened frame and new mesh bring it back. A frame that's bent beyond straightening gets replaced with a new screen door sized to the opening. Retractable screens for a hinged door are an option where there's no track.
