Locks, Deadbolts and Smart Locks in Phoenix

Deadbolts that take two hands, handles that droop, and the smart lock you want on the front door.

Arizona ROC #366903 · Licensed, Bonded & Insured

When the deadbolt takes two hands, or the front door or the sliding door won't lock, it's usually a repair, not a replacement. We replace locksets, deadbolts and handles, including levers in place of knobs, and install smart locks and keypad deadbolts.

Deadbolts that stick or won't line up

Nine times out of ten the lock is fine and the door has moved. The door drops on a loose top hinge, or the frame shifts as the house settles, and the bolt no longer meets the hole in the strike plate. You end up lifting the door with the handle to get it to lock. The fix is moving the strike plate, or a long screw in the top hinge to pull the door back up. A deadbolt that's gritty or stiff inside has worn out, and it gets replaced. Schlage and Kwikset deadbolts fit the same hole, so swapping brands is no trouble.

Handles and levers

A lever that droops, a knob that spins without turning the latch, a handleset on the front door that wobbles: all of these are a loose set screw, a worn spring, or a lock that's done. Most new handles fit the same two holes, so changing the whole house from knobs to levers, or to a new finish, is a one-day job. Levers are the right choice for anyone who has trouble gripping a knob.

Smart locks and keypads

A smart lock or keypad deadbolt replaces the deadbolt you have and fits the same hole on most doors. Schlage Encode, Kwikset Halo, Yale and August are the ones we see most. Some need a separate keypad, some need the door to be drilled a certain way, and some sit badly on a thick or metal door. Send a photo of your current deadbolt and the edge of the door and we'll tell you before you buy. We set it up, pair it to your phone, and show you how to add codes.

The small stuff

Hinge pins that creep up. Doors that squeak (a drop of oil on the pins, not WD-40, which dries out). Doorstops that are missing, so the handle has dented the wall. A peephole in a solid front door. A reinforced strike plate with three-inch screws into the framing, which is the cheapest security upgrade a front door can get. All of it gets done in the same visit as the lock.

Questions

Can you install a smart lock on my door?
Yes, on most doors. A smart lock fits the standard deadbolt hole. Send a photo of your current deadbolt and the edge of the door, and we'll confirm it fits before you buy.
Do I need a new lock, or can mine be fixed?
If it's hard to lock, the door has usually moved and the lock is fine. If it's stiff or gritty with the door open, the lock is worn and a new one is cheaper than fighting it.
My kid locked themselves in the bathroom. What do I do?
Look at the outside of the knob. There's a small hole. A flat screwdriver, a butter knife or the pin that came with the lock turns it. If the lock's been painted over or the pin's gone, call and we'll talk you through it, then come swap the lock so it doesn't happen again.
Can you fix a front door lock that sticks in the heat?
Usually it's the door, not the lock. Entry doors can warp slightly in the sun, especially dark doors facing west, so the bolt stops lining up with the strike plate, and adjusting the strike plate usually fixes it.
