Wood Floor Repair in Phoenix
Boards, scratches and gouges in wood and engineered floors.
Arizona ROC #366903 · Licensed, Bonded & Insured
Wood floors in Phoenix are usually engineered wood, a thin layer of real wood over plywood, or solid wood in older and custom homes. They scratch, gouge and dent, and sections of them get water damage.
Scratches, gouges and dents
Light scratches in the finish get buffed and touched up with a finish that matches the sheen. Deeper scratches and gouges that go through the finish into the wood get filled with a color-matched filler, then finished over. A dent in a solid wood floor can sometimes be steamed up. On engineered wood, which has a thin top layer, deep damage usually means replacing the board.
Replacing boards
A damaged board in a nailed-down or glued-down floor gets cut out, the edges get cleaned up, and a new board is fitted and glued or face-nailed in place. The trick is matching the species, the color and the finish. A board from a closet or under a built-in can be swapped into the visible area, the same way we match tile. New boards are finished to match the sheen of the floor around them.
Water damage, usually under a fridge, a dishwasher or a window, means cupped or stained boards. Cupped boards sometimes flatten after they dry. Stained or warped ones get replaced once the leak is fixed.
Refinishing
A solid wood floor with the finish worn through in the walkways, or with cupping across the whole room, is past spot repair. Sanding and refinishing the floor takes it back to bare wood and gives it a new finish, and the floor comes out looking new. We can help with that too, and it's quoted as its own project. Engineered wood can usually take one light sanding in its life, and some can't take any, so that one gets looked at first.

Questions
- My engineered floor has a deep gouge. Can it be sanded?
- Usually not. The real-wood layer on engineered flooring is thin, and sanding through it exposes the plywood. The board gets replaced instead.
